Florida Afforestation and Reforestation Services

Afforestation (planting trees where none previously existed) and Reforestation (replanting of trees) are essential to the future of our forests.

Afforestation and Reforestation Tree Species

Afforestation and reforestation can be accomplished through direct seeding, mechanical planting, or hand planting of select tree species. Within Florida, landowners plant several types of pine and hardwood tree species. Each type of tree is suited for a specific soil and habitat type, and we are able to assist landowners in choosing which tree best fits their site conditions.

Designing and Implementing Afforestation and Reforestation Projects

Presently, several different species of trees are being utilized in planting projects for higher timber and biomass production, shorter timetable to maturity, and increased carbon sequestration. FES℠ is able to assist landowners in the designing and implementation of their tree planting efforts to meet their specifications, whether for low density plantings such as for wildlife, or high-density plantings for timber production, biomass production, pine straw, and carbon sequestration.

Types of Afforestation and Reforestation Projects in Florida

Landowners have a variety of reasons why they plant herbaceous plants, shrubs, and trees. Some examples of different plant and tree planting projects that we have been proud to plan and implement with landowners are:

Biomass Production

Creation of high-density tree plantations that mature quickly in anticipation of creating a sustainable and renewable bio-fuel stock for energy producing mills.

Carbon Sequestration

Creation of high-density tree plantations that mature quickly in anticipation of creating a carbon offset project that can generate additive, or alternate cash flows for landowners.

Habitat Enhancement

Landowners utilize low density plantings of various site specific native herbaceous plant, shrub, and tree species to improve the habitat of selected flora and fauna creating a vegetative mosaic that can be continually managed.

Hunting Cover and Edge Creation

Landowners try to improve hunting through the creation of edges and strategically placed sightlines while simultaneously providing cover.

Mitigation

Planting of various site specific native herbaceous plant, shrub, and tree species either on-site or off-site to reduce the impact that has occurred to an affected area.

Natural Buffer Creation

Create audio and visual buffers through the use of site-specific drought tolerant, native, pollinator plant vegetation to reduce the effect of adjacent impacts.

Reclamation

Planting of site-specific native herbaceous plant, shrub, and tree species in areas that have been affected by the removal of other resources, such as mining.

Restoration

This entails the planting of various site specific native herbaceous plant, shrub, and tree species to mimic what would naturally or historically occur on a site.

Pine Timber and Pine Straw Production

Planting of pine trees typically at a rate of 726 to 871 trees per acre with the objective of raking pine straw and harvesting timber in the future.

Wetland Enhancement or Creation

Planting of various site-specific native wetland herbaceous plant, shrub, and tree species to enhance or create a wetland.

Wildlife Enhancement

Creation of low-density plantings of various native pollinator herbaceous plant, shrub, and tree species to improve the habitat and food supply for selected pollinator species and fauna.

Afforestation and Reforestation Services

FES℠ is able to plant bare–root and containerized size herbaceous plants, shrubs, and trees either by hand or mechanically, but also specializes in offering services to plant larger gallon material plants, shrubs, and trees up to 65 gallons. Whether for mitigation or the need of an immediate buffer, FES℠ is able to plant larger shrub and tree species for landowners with specific tree planting requirements.

Assistance with Afforestation and Reforestation Services

FES℠ is able to provide assistance in determining the type of tree which is suited for a specific soil and habitat type, and we are able to assist landowners in choosing which tree best fits their site conditions. Contact us for more information.
